London IP Week 7.0, held last December, was a resounding success, bringing together over 200 attendees across two dynamic days. The event fostered in-depth discussions on the latest trends, pressing challenges, and strategies to navigate the ever-evolving IP landscape.
Following the event, we had the privilege of speaking with Jesper Ohrt Juel Jensen, VP of Strategic Partnerships at PatentRenewal.com. With a passion for transforming IP management, Jesper has helped grow PatentRenewal.com into a global leader, delivering cost-effective, transparent, and efficient IP renewal solutions. Previously, as Co-Founder of Ideanote.io, Jesper gained recognition for fostering innovation and customer-focused solutions, earning accolades like the Nordic Startup Awards.
In this conversation, Jesper shares his vision for the future of IP management, the key forces driving change, and how PatentRenewal.com’s tools address the needs of IP owners.Â

As a leader in the intellectual property software space, how do you envision the future of IP management evolving over the next 5–10 years? What key trends or technologies do you believe will shape this evolution?
The future of IP management is set to be transformed by the rapid adoption of AI, redefining how IP professionals see their work. Tasks that used to take days, like patent searches or filing office actions, can now be completed in hours. This efficiency is a major opportunity, but it also disrupts traditional models like billable hours, forcing adaptation across the industry.
We anticipate greater connectivity in how IP applications are submitted and processed. With initiatives like the Unitary Patent, more countries are likely to adopt digital filing systems, reducing the need for local agents and face-to-face interactions. Increased collaboration between global IP agencies could further streamline processes, making applications faster and simpler for innovators. AI tools will also continue to evolve, not only for companies and inventors but potentially within official IP or patent offices as well. These tools could shorten the time it takes to grant patents, enhance accuracy, and improve efficiency across the board.
That said, reliance on external technologies like cloud computing and payment solutions highlights the need to balance in-house expertise with third-party tools. While setbacks are inevitable—as seen in past tech revolutions like blockchain or crypto—competition drives progress. We hope to see these advancements expand to all areas of IP services, ultimately benefiting IP owners with faster, more affordable, and less complex solutions. Companies that adapt to these changes will definitely thrive.
PatentRenewal.com emphasizes efficiency, transparency, and cost-effectiveness. What innovative approaches or strategies are you implementing to revolutionize the IP renewal process on a global scale?
Our approach to IP renewals is rooted in automation and simplicity. At its core, the innovative idea is that algorithms excel at repetitive tasks in ways humans simply cannot. Computing is inherently more reliable, resilient, and predictable for specific IP processes - especially renewals for us -Â and this foundational belief drives everything we do.
At PatentRenewal.com, we are working to digitize almost every possible element of the IP renewal process—not only to make our work more efficient and reduce manual tasks but also to significantly lower overall costs for our customers. For example, we use modern payment providers to minimize currency exchange fees, and we’ve eliminated local agents from the process where they are no longer necessary. These steps ensure both cost-effectiveness and transparency.
Our software is designed to prioritize automation and scalability. Today, we work together with more than 2500 IP holders, this workload would typically require far more manual input. Instead, our highly specialized and diligent team is supported by advanced automation, reducing the risk of human error and enabling continuous improvement. By embedding our learnings directly into our systems, we ensure progress.
We also embrace change proactively. If we identify that our current way of doing business isn’t sustainable in the long term, we adjust immediately. This adaptability gives us an edge over competitors who are slower to pivot. We aim to lead the charge, not resist it.
What do you see as the most significant challenges currently facing the intellectual property industry, and how do you believe companies like PatentRenewal.com can address these obstacles?
The IP industry is undergoing a paradigm shift. From the introduction of the Unitary Patent System and the impacts of Brexit to the rise of AI providers, there’s a lot happening on the global stage. It’s an exciting but challenging time.
One key challenge is managing the gap between the rapid development of new technologies and their practical implementation in the IP industry. While the potential for growth is immense, the influx of new players and solutions can create over-saturation in the short term. This makes it difficult for companies to discern which tools offer real value versus those still finding their footing. It may take a few years for the market to stabilize and for standout solutions to emerge.
At PatentRenewal.com, we’re careful not to overextend ourselves. For instance, we won’t expand into areas like recordals, validations, or filings unless we’re confident we can deliver something superior. By focusing on core strengths and listening closely to the market, we can stay ahead while avoiding unnecessary complexity.
Drawing from your experience at Ideanote.io, where customer feedback played a crucial role, how do you incorporate customer insights into the development of IP solutions at PatentRenewal.com?
At Ideanote.io, we learned early on that different types of customer feedback are invaluable. That’s a principle I’ve carried with me to PatentRenewal.com. We have dedicated internal communication channels where every single customer rating, NPS, or CSAT score is shared and discussed. We prioritize direct customer engagement through regular meetings and one-on-one conversations, where we actively listen to their feedback and understand their needs. These interactions allow us to go beyond data points like customer ratings or NPS scores, fostering meaningful discussions that shape our decisions and help us deliver better solutions.
This constant flow of feedback—whether positive or negative—shapes both our performance and our product development.
The key is to ensure the customer remains the focus. Overengineering is a trap I’ve fallen into before, driven by trying to please too many internal stakeholders. But the answer is always the same: prioritize the customer, again and again. By aligning our efforts with what they actually need, we avoid wasting resources on features or processes that don’t add value.
With your journey from a startup founder to a VP in a leading IP renewal platform, what legacy do you hope to leave in the IP software industry, and what drives your passion for making a difference in this space?
The true legacy of any impactful action in the IP industry lies in how it reshapes the landscape for innovation, fairness, and progress. For me, leaving a meaningful legacy means showing that you don’t need prior industry experience to make an impact, you just need to surround yourself with the right experts and professionals. By collaborating with knowledgeable IP professionals and focusing on solving the challenges we set out to address seven years ago, I hope to contribute to an industry where transparency is a given, not a unique selling point. That’s the standard we’re striving to set at PatentRenewal.com.
Ultimately, empowering innovators with solutions that meet their needs and removing unnecessary barriers and inefficiencies should be the motivation behind change. That's the kind of legacy I want to leave in the IP software industry.
